Our Commitment to Ending Systemic Racism
Together, we mourn George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others that have been victims of racist crimes, prejudice, oppression, hate, and injustice. We feel the pain and suffering our communities are experiencing – not just this week, but every day.
At Westside Family Healthcare, we serve with compassion and empathy. We believe everyone deserves to feel valued, included, welcomed and engaged. Above all else, we believe everyone has the right to live and thrive in safe and healthy neighborhoods without fear of discrimination.
As a trusted community health provider, we witness the direct effect of violence, stress, physical and mental abuse on the health and well-being of our patients– people on the receiving end of racism and discrimination because of the color of their skin, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, income level or insurance status. As a healthcare system, we know that health disparities in communities of color are caused by centuries of racism and oppression. We also know the health of our community depends on our ability as a nation to come together to implement real, long-lasting change.
Born out of the civil rights and social justice movement of the 1960s, the nation’s Community Health Centers, like Westside, serve to this day as advocates for quality care and health equity for all. Staying true to our history, Westside is committed to be engaged in today’s movement to eliminate systemic racism for good.
Together, we will build a stronger, healthier, and more just society.
