WESTSIDE FAMILY HEALTHCARE RAISES OVER $560,000 FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS IN ITS 30TH YEAR
Wilmington, DE (January 11, 2019) As part of its 30th Anniversary celebration in 2018, Westside launched a silent capital fundraising campaign to modernize critical medical and dental equipment, reduce Westside’s environmental footprint, and address deferred building maintenance across its health centers. This funding comes at a critical time for Westside as our patient population continues to grow and Westside transforms how we deliver care for our patients.
In 2018, Westside was awarded capital funding from private foundations, including The Longwood Foundation ($283,000), Welfare Foundation ($135,000), Delaware Community Foundation ($20,000), Crystal Trust ($50,000), and Laffey-McHugh Foundation ($75,000).
“We’re grateful to have private foundations in Delaware who deeply value our work and the communities we serve,” said Lolita Lopez, President & CEO of Westside Family Healthcare. “Their commitment to Delaware is shown through their generosity. Thirty-thousand Delawareans walk through our health center doors each year, and this funding will go a long way to improve the infrastructure of our health centers for years to come.”
A majority of the capital improvements will be directed towards Westside’s Wilmington Health Center located on West Fourth Street in Wilmington – Westside’s oldest and busiest health center. These improvements include replacing the roof, replacing all light bulbs to energy-efficient LED lights, replacing flooring with a low-maintenance alternative, improving the HVAC system, and modernizing critical medical and dental equipment. Funds will also be used across all of Westside’s health centers for interior updates and new medical equipment including ultrasound machines, bilicheck machines to check for jaundice in newborns, and spirometers to support the treatment of asthma and other conditions that affect breathing.
In August 1988, Westside Family Healthcare opened its doors with a mission to provide health services to families living in underserved neighborhoods on the west side of Wilmington. Thirty years later Westside remains a constant source for compassionate care that families depend on to live vibrant, healthy lives.
